Heiress to the Throne

In the search to replace the irreplaceable Alexander McQueen, the label has chosen a successor.  Sarah Burton has been the head of women’s wear since 2000, but had worked alongside McQueen since 1996 when she was still a student at Central Saint Martin’s College.  It’s a huge responsibility to carry on the work of McQueen, but having been such longtime collaborator Burton seems like not only the logical, but also the best, choice to serve as his successor.  She seems to be mentally prepared for the task.  In her own words, “The creation of modern, beautifully crafted clothes was at the heart of Lee’s vision. I intend to stay true to his legacy.”

I am still saddened that McQueen is no longer around, but I have high hopes for Burton’s ability to keep the McQueen flame alive.

  1. For me, it is hard to image that anyone can replace McQueen but she really is the best fit. Looking forward to see her work!
